SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio FC announced on Friday the club had signed former Houston Dynamo midfielder Charlie Ward for the 2018 USL season, pending league and federation approval.

“This opportunity means a lot,” said Ward. “I’m happy to be here and I’m excited. The staff has been great to me and I’m excited to get going and help this team get into the playoffs, and we’re hoping to win.”

Ward joins San Antonio FC after spending parts of the last three seasons with RGV FC and the Dynamo. The English native joined the Toros prior to the 2016 season and started in all 30 matches for the club, leading it to a second-place finish in the USL Western Conference and a place in the USL Cup Playoffs in its inaugural season.

Ward then appeared in 12 matches for the Toros in 2017 before signing with the Dynamo midway through the 2017 season. The 23-year-old made his MLS debut on July 22 against D.C. United, and made a pair of appearances for the Dynamo in the 2017 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

He’s the type of player that is able to play multiple positions and add positives to the team he’s playing with. I have no doubt his ability and style of play will improve our club.”

Beckie made 27 appearances for the Armada in the 2017 season as he recorded two assists and one goal. Prior to his stint with Jacksonville, he played with North Carolina FC and Ottawa Fury FC, and has made 86 professional appearances in his career.
