Long-range blast by Foxes midfielder earns top spot in weekly fan poll

TAMPA, Fla. – Fresno FC midfielder Jemal Johnson has earned the USL Fans’ Choice Goal of the Week for Week 12 of the 2018 season as his long-distance blast that boosted the Foxes to victory against Seattle Sounders FC 2 last Saturday night took top spot in the weekly online poll.

Johnson bagged a pair of goals in Fresno’s 4-0 victory against Seattle, but his first grabbed the spotlight as it landed on ESPN’s SportsCenter Top 10 late on Saturday night. Picking up possession in midfield, Johnson drove toward goal and as the defense backed off he unleashed a powerful drive that flew into the top-right corner of the net to leave S2 goalkeeper Bryan Meredith helpless.

Johnson’s goal earned 43 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Thursday. Nashville SC’s Lebo Moloto finished second on 24 percent for his outstanding curled finish that caromed in off the crossbar against Penn FC last Saturday night, while Indy Eleven’s Soony Saad finished third with 16 percent for his remarkable drive from 35 yards into the top-right corner of the net against the Charleston Battery.
