LA records 7-2 victory at the StubHub Center

CARSON, Calif. – LA Galaxy II and Las Vegas Lights FC took part in a slugfest on Saturday, but Los Dos ended up victorious on the night by securing a 7-2 win at the StubHub Center. Ethan Zubak scored a hat trick in under eight minutes, scoring his first in the 10th, his second in the 16th and his third tally in the 18th minute. Meanwhile, Daigo Kobayashi scored a brace for Las Vegas, netting on either side of Zubak’s hat trick in the first half. Once the second half started, though, it was all LA. Zubak scored his fourth of the evening in the 54th minute, while Ariel Lassiter added a fifth for the home side six minutes later. Lassiter, as well as Julian Buescher,  would score another goal late into the match to ensure a dominant victory. With the result, Los Dos improves to 2-6-4 on the year, while Las Vegas falls to 2-4-4 in the 2018 campaign.

Scoring:

7’ – LV – Daigo Kobayashi (Samuel Ochoa)
10’ – LA – Ethan Zubak (Julian Buescher)
16’ – LA – Ethan Zubak
18’ – LA – Ethan Zubak (Alex Mendez)
22’ – LV – Daigo Kobayashi (Samuel Ochoa)
54’ – LA – Ethan Zubak (Ulysses Llanez Jr)
60’ – LA – Ariel Lassiter (Julian Buescher)
87’ – LA – Julian Buescher (Ariel Lassiter)
89’ – LA – Ariel Lassiter (Julian Buescher)

Three Things That Matter:

  • 1. Ethan Zubak had arguably the best performance of his career on Saturday. The forward, who was named the No. 3 player on the 2017 USL 20 Under 20 last season, had the first four-goal game for any USL player since Djiby Fall did it for FC Cincinnati on April 15, 2017. As a part of that impressive feat, the 20-year-old recorded one of the fastest hat tricks in USL’s modern era, netting three goals in under eight minutes during the first half of play.
  • 2. While Zubak will steal all the headlines, and deservedly so, many more Los Dos talents shined on the night. Ariel Lassiter scored his first two goals of the 2018 USL season and also recorded an assist, while Julian Buescher scored one and recorded three assists on the night. Both players have added to the impressive attack Los Dos has shown in recent outings, as the team has scored 20 goals in its last five contests.
  • 3. Las Vegas is now winless in its last three matches, and Saturday’s defeat was arguably the worst outing for the team's defense. Prior to the match, Las Vegas had only conceded 12 goals this season, so Los Dos' seven-goal performance should serve as a major wake-up call for Lights FC. After starting the season 2-0-2, Lights FC now has a 0-4-2 record. Daigo Kobayashi recorded two goals in the first half, and the team looked strong enough to fight for a point, but exceptional efforts from many of Los Dos’ talented youngsters were too much for Lights FC to handle.
