Cincinnati midfielder’s first-time finish against Indy finishes top of fan poll

TAMPA, Fla. – FC Cincinnati midfielder Jimmy McLaughlin has garnered the USL Fans’ Choice Goal of the Week for Week 8 of the 2018 season as his first-time finish against Indy Eleven last Wednesday night in the USL Game of the Week at Lucas Oil Stadium claimed top spot in the weekly online poll.

McLaughlin is the second consecutive FCC player to win the award after Kenney Walker a week ago, as his late first-half goal against Indy proved a pivotal moment in Cincinnati’s 3-2 road victory. Trailing by a goal as halftime approached, a clever lifted through-ball by Corben Bone picked out McLaughlin’s angled run in behind the Eleven’s defense, and McLaughlin hit a first-time shot back into the left corner of the net to level the score.

McLaughlin’s goal earned 73 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Thursday. Tulsa Roughnecks FC’s Joaquin Rivas finished second on 16 percent for his great piece of control and finish against Las Vegas Lights FC last Saturday night, and Real Monarchs SLC’s Juan Mare finished third for his dramatic game-winner against Orange County SC last Friday night.
