TAMPA, Fla. – North Carolina FC goalkeeper Alex Tambakis has claimed the USL Fans’ Choice Save of the Month for April for his outstanding one-on-one save against Penn FC last month, taking 78 percent of the online poll conducted this weekend.
Tambakis recorded his third shutout of the season in North Carolina’s 3-0 victory against Penn on April 28, a performance that was highlighted by his second-half save that denied Mauricio Eustaquio from finding the net on a breakaway. Eustaquio looked to chip his finish over Tambakis after the goalkeeper had come off his line to narrow the shooting angles, but Tambakis elevated to swat the effort away to safety.
Tambakis took a comfortable victory in the online poll from Toronto FC II’s Caleb Patterson-Sewell, whose penalty kick save against the New York Red Bulls II finished second with 19 percent. Indy Eleven’s Owain Fon Williams finished third for his penalty kick save in stoppage time against North Carolina FC, which preserved a shutout victory for the Eleven.
