TAMPA, Fla. – Toronto FC II goalkeeper Caleb Patterson-Sewell has claimed the USL Fans’ Choice Save of the Week for Week 7 of the 2018 season as his outstanding penalty-kick save against the New York Red Bulls II at BMO Field last Saturday night took top spot in the closest weekly online poll so far this season.
Patterson-Sewell recorded a pair of saves in the scoreless draw between Toronto FC II and New York, but his first of the two proved crucial in earning Toronto a point as the veteran shot-stopper pulled off a diving stop to keep out Red Bulls II forward Stefano Bonomo’s penalty kick to the left corner of the net in the 61st minute.
Patterson-Sewell’s save earned 47.9 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Friday to edge out North Carolina FC’s Alex Tambakis by three-tenths of a percentage point after almost 4,000 votes were cast during the week. Tambakis’ one-on-one denial of Penn FC’s Mauricio Eustaquio that helped preserve his shutout last Saturday took 47.6 percent, while Louisville City FC’s Greg Ranjitsingh finished third for his fine close-range stop of Bethlehem Steel FC’s Aidan Apodaca.
