FENTON, Mo. – Toyota Stadium - Saint Louis is turning into quite the fortress for Saint Louis FC this season, as the team has now recorded seven points from three home games after topping LA Galaxy II 1-0 in front of 4,006 fans on Saturday evening. Joey Calistri scored the game-winning goal 19 seconds into the second half, heading the ball by Los Dos goalkeeper Eric Lopez following an inch-perfect cross to the back post by Jonathan Barden. Both sides had multiple opportunities to score in the first half, with Ariel Lassiter’s long-range chip attempt that hit the crossbar in the 27th minute serving as one of the best chances for both sides. LA pushed for an equalizer but could not find it after Calistri’s goal in the 46th minute, and it was Saint Louis which had the best chance to convert late on, as Tony Rocha’s blast on frame in the 85th minute was spectacularly saved by Los Dos’ Lopez. With the result, Saint Louis improves to 2-1-2, while LA falls to 0-4-2 this year.

Scoring:

46’ – STL – Joey Calistri (Jonathan Barden)

Three Things That Matter:

  • 1. There’s no place like home for Saint Louis FC. After starting the 2018 USL campaign on the road and earning only one point from two games, the team was able to secure seven from a three-game home stint. Saturday’s match was the second shutout of that stint, having topped Colorado Switchbacks FC 1-0 on March 31.
  • 2. Los Dos is still looking for its first win of the season after allowing a second-half winner at Toyota Stadium - Saint Louis on Saturday. The team has only recorded two points in 2018 and has now not scored a goal in four consecutive games. However, LA’s record does not paint the whole picture, as the team has shown spurts of exceptional play and has recorded quality chances this regular season. Los Dos attempted eight shots on the night, but as has been the case many times this season, the team just could not finish their goal-scoring opportunities.
  • 3. To date, Saint Louis has scored exactly one goal in every match played, and Joey Calistri was the difference-maker for the team on Saturday. One of the top performers for Tulsa Roughnecks FC in 2017, Calistri scored his first goal of the 2018 regular season and will be looking to match his production from 2017, when he helped lead the Roughnecks to their first appearance in the USL Cup Playoffs.
