Indy goalkeeper’s stoppage-time penalty kick save wins weekly award’s poll

TAMPA, Fla. – Indy Eleven goalkeeper Owain Fon Williams has claimed the USL Fans’ Choice Save of the Week for Week 4 of the 2018 season as his stoppage-time save of a penalty kick against North Carolina FC that earned his side all three points took top spot in the weekly online poll.

Indy held a one-goal lead on the road against North Carolina FC last Saturday night, but the hosts were awarded a penalty kick in stoppage time for a chance to equalize. Williams was up to the challenge, however, as he made a diving stop on Kyle Bekker’s shot to the left corner for his third save of the night to preserve the victory.

Williams’ save earned 36 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Friday. Nashville SC’s Matt Pickens finished second on 29 percent for outstanding save to deny the Charlotte Independence’s Jorge Herrera on a free kick to the top-right corner of the net, while Louisville City FC’s Greg Ranjitsingh finished third on 17 percent for his diving save to keep out FC Cincinnati’s Lance Laing’s long-range drive to the right corner in the River Cities Cup clash between the clubs.
