TAMPA, Fla. – Tampa Bay Rowdies goalkeeper Evan Newton has claimed the USL Fans’ Choice Save of the Week for Week 2 of the 2018 season as his fine early save against Bethlehem Steel FC, which helped earn his side a 2-0 victory in its home opener at Al Lang Stadium, took top spot in the weekly online poll.  

Mizell had to be sharp early against Steel FC as he got down well to turn aside a low effort from the top of the penalty area toward the right corner by Bethlehem winger Marcus Epps. Mizell finished the night with a four-save shutout, his first of the season, as the Rowdies continued their perfect start to the year.

Mizell’s save earned 43 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Friday. Nashville SC’s Matt Pickens finished second on 39 percent for his diving save to deny Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC’s Romeo Parks, and Sacramento Republic FC’s Jose Cohen took third for a second successive week for his reflex stop to keep out Orange County SC’s Thomas Enevoldsen.
