Outstanding individual effort lifted Republic FC to victory

TAMPA, Fla. – Sacramento Republic FC forward Cameron Iwasa has won the USL Fans’ Choice Goal of the Week for Week 2 of the 2018 season as his outstanding individual run and finish took top spot in the weekly online poll.

Iwasa’s first goal since his return to Republic FC this offseason highlighted the standout forward’s speed and technical ability. Iwasa latched onto a long ball forward 40 yards from goal and broke in one-on-one with his marker into the right side of the penalty area. Cutting back inside onto his left foot to create space, Iwasa threaded home a near-post finish that proved the winner in Republic FC’s second consecutive win to start the season.

Iwasa’s goal earned 39 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Thursday. Phoenix Rising FC forward Solomon Asante finished second with 36 percent for a blistering finish from the edge of the penalty area in a 4-1 win against OKC Energy FC, and Fresno FC’s Alex Cooper took third with 11 percent for a driven low finish that earned the Foxes their first point in club history in a 1-1 draw with the LA Galaxy II.
