Trinidad & Tobago Selections Lead USL Call-Ups

14 players from across the league named for international duty this week

TAMPA, Fla. – A quartet of selections for Trinidad & Tobago’s pair of upcoming international exhibitions lead the contingent of USL players selected for international duty over the coming week.

Defenders Mekeil Williams of the Richmond Kickers and Kevan George of the Charlotte Independence were named to the Soca Warriors’ squad, alongside midfielder Neveal Hackshaw of the Charleston Battery and winger Nathan Lewis of Indy Eleven. T&T is scheduled to face Guadaloupe on Friday, and Martinique on Sunday over the coming week.

Louisville City FC’s Shaun Francis and the Charleston Battery’s Quinton Griffith could face off on Sunday evening as Francis’ Jamaica and Griffith’s Antigua & Barbuda meet at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica. Also selected for Jamaica is former USL standout Romario Williams of Atlanta United, who earned 2017 All-League honors for the Battery last season.

Phoenix Rising FC winger Billy Forbes has been named again as captain for Turks & Caicos as the side travels to face the Dominican Republic on Thursday in Santo Domingo.

Ottawa Fury FC forward Michael Salazar, on loan to the club from the Montreal Impact, has been selected in Belize’s squad for a pair of games against Grenada in the upcoming week. Salazar has made 10 previous appearances for his country.

Toronto FC II standout Liam Fraser earned his first selection to the Canada National Team for the side’s exhibition against New Zealand on Saturday in Murcia, Spain. Fraser, who was selected as the No. 15 player on the 2017 USL 20 Under 20 before signing as a Homegrown Player with Toronto FC this offseason, will be joined by fellow former USL standouts Mark-Anthony Kaye, now with Los Angeles FC, and Raheem Edwards, now with the Montreal Impact, in Head Coach John Herdman’s first squad in charge.

Four players have also been called into camp for Guam, with Phoenix Rising FC goalkeeper Dallas Jaye, Richmond Kickers defender Alex Lee, ATL UTD 2 defender Shawn Nicklaw and Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC forward Shane Malcolm all part of the country’s training camp in California, as part of which it will face the USL’s LA Galaxy II.

Kickers forward Bruno Miranda, who made his debut for the club on loan from D.C. United this past Sunday, has also been called up by Bolivia for the country’s exhibition against Curaçao on Friday.

In addition to those called in for full international duty, six USL players have also been named to the U.S. U20 National Team squad that will face France and Atletico Madrid’s U21 squad. Bethlehem Steel FC’s Matt Real and Mark McKenzie, Seattle Sounders FC 2’s Sam Rogers and Jake Morris, LA Galaxy II Ulysses Llanez Jr. and Saint Louis FC’s Aedan Stanley were all named in the squad.

Finally, five players who have previously competed in the USL are currently in North Carolina with the U.S. Men’s National Team ahead of next Tuesday’s international exhibition at Sahlen’s Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park. Goalkeepers Zack Steffen (Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC) and Alex Bono (Toronto FC II), defender Erik Palmer-Brown (Swope Park Rangers) and midfielders Tyler Adams (New York Red Bulls II) and Cristian Roldan (Seattle Sounders FC 2) will all be available for selection for the game at the home of new USL club North Carolina FC, which will air on Fox Sports 1 and UniMas.
