HARRISBURG, Pa. – Penn FC announced on Monday the signing of El Salvadoran midfielder Richard Menjivar and forward Saalih Muhammad, pending league and federation approval.
A native of California, Menjivar competed for the United States U18 National Team before electing to play for El Salvador at the senior level. The 27-year-old has made 41 appearances for his country at the senior level since his debut in 2013, including being selected to the squad for the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup, where he made two appearances, and in qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Previously a member of the New York Cosmos, Menjivar has made 81 regular-season professional appearances in his career, and will add to the experience in the Penn FC’s midfield corps.
Muhammad arrives having previously been part of the San Francisco Deltas, where a preseason injury that saw him suffer a torn Achilles tendon which ruled the California native out of action for most of last year. The 22-year-old is now looking to make a big impression as he returns to the field for his new club.
Penn FC will open its 2018 USL regular season this Saturday when it visits the Charleston Battery for a 7 p.m. ET kickoff at MUSC Health Stadium.
