PITTSBURGH – Recent signing Neco Brett scored the only goal of the game as Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC notched its fourth shutout of the preseason in a 1-0 win against the University of Pittsburgh at Ambrose Urbanic Field on Friday night.

Braving a windy and chilly atmosphere at the Panthers’ venue, Riverhounds SC applied consistent pressure in Pitt’s defensive third throughout the first half, and that pressure paid off when Brett struck a minute before halftime.

Riverhounds midfielder Christiano François helped break the deadlock with some nifty footwork in the right side of the penalty area, and after a soft first touch to settle possession, François worked enough space to poke a ball through to Brett. The Jamaican forward received and turned immediately to fire his shot through the Panthers’ goalkeeper charging off his line to put Riverhounds SC ahead on Brett’s team-leading third goal of the preseason.

Riverhounds SC made numerous changes in the second half, including the introduction of goalkeeper Mike Kirk for starter Dan Lynd midway through the period. Lynd had notably made a key save early in the first half in what was a quasi-homecoming for the goalkeeper, who had played collegiately for Pitt from 2012-15.
