Tigres, Pumas to Clash at Toyota Field

International exhibition set for March 21 at home of San Antonio FC

SAN ANTONIO – 2017 Liga MX Apertura champion Tigres UANL and Pumas UNAM will visit Toyota Field in San Antonio for an international exhibition on Wednesday, March 21 presented by SPD Sports, bringing together two of the top clubs in Mexico for a mid-season clash at the home of the USL’s San Antonio FC. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. CT.

“We’re excited to host a high-caliber match between two historic clubs at Toyota Field,” said Director of Toyota Field Dave Susi. “We continue to strive to find the best events to host at the venue, and this match provides an opportunity for fans to enjoy a night of top soccer between two Liga MX powers at San Antonio’s premier soccer venue.”

Tigres is a six-time Liga MX champion, most recently winning the Apertura 2017, Apertura 2016, and Apertura 2015 titles. The club has also won the Copa MX on three occasions, and claimed consecutive Campeon de Campeones title in 2016 and 2017. On the international stage, Tigres finished as runners-up in the 2015-16 and 2016-17 editions of the CONCACAF Champions League, and won the SuperLiga championship in 2009.

Pumas UNAM is one of the most popular clubs in Mexico City. Founded in 1954, the club has won seven first-division championships and four international titles, most recently winning the 2011 Liga MX Clausura. The club’s notable domestic titles include one Copa MX championship, two Campeon de Campeones titles, and one Segunda Division championship. Pumas also won three CONCACAF Champions League titles in 1980, 1982, and 1989. The club is also known for its youth development system, which has produced players the likes of Mexican legend Hugo Sanchez, Jorge Campos, Claudio Suarez, among many others.

San Antonio FC Season Ticket Members will have an exclusive pre-sale window to purchase tickets to the match starting Monday, January 29 at 10 a.m. Tickets for the match will then go on sale to the general public on Tuesday, January 30 at 10 a.m. CT. Tickets can be purchased online by visiting Ticketmaster.com, with prices starting at $37. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the AT&T Center box office as well as at all La Michoacana meat market locations in the San Antonio area.
