Lennon Heads to Roughnecks

Versatile former college standout joins Tulsa from Monarchs

TULSA, Okla. – Tulsa Roughnecks FC announced on Tuesday its had signed Riggs Lennon for the 2018 USL season, bringing the versatile 23-year-old on board after having spent the past season with Real Monarchs SLC.

"Riggs is a young and dynamic player who can play left back or forward," said TRFC Head Coach David Vaudreuil. "From any position, he is a box-to-box player with the skills and composure to help us unlock the opposition's defense. We are excited to have him join our club."

The 6-foot-1 Lennon began his professional career last year with the Monarchs, appearing in one USL game. He had previously competed in the Premier Development League for Lane United FC in the 2016 season in addition to competing collegiately for both the University of Virginia for three seasons and Creighton University for his senior year. 

Lennon scored seven goals in 47 appearances for the Cavaliers and helped them claim the NCAA College Cup in his junior year, converting the championship-clinching penalty kick in a shootout. After his transfer to Creighton, he notched 10 goals in 23 games in his one season with the Bluejays.

Riggs Lennon is also the older brother of U.S. U20 Men’s National Team forward Brooks Lennon, who recently made a permanent move to Real Salt Lake of Major League Soccer after beginning his professional career with English Premier League club Liverpool FC.
