SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio FC announced on Thursday it had re-signed Costa Rican forward Cesar Elizondo for the 2018 season pending league and federation approval. Elizondo returns for his second full season with San Antonio after originally joining the club in July of 2016.

“We are pleased to have Cesar return,” said SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell. “His energy and commitment to the team are evident every time he takes the field. We look forward to his contributions in 2018.”

Elizondo and San Antonio FC recently concluded the 2017 season with a Western Conference playoff berth and second place finish in the standings. The Costa Rican scored four goals, which ranked third-most on the club, and recorded three assists in 21 regular season USL matches. In two playoff matches this year, Elizondo added another two goals in 191 total minutes. Overall in his SAFC career, Elizondo has scored eight goals and recorded five assists in 32 matches across all competitions.

“The 2018 season will be an exciting challenge,” said Elizondo. “We showed ourselves and San Antonio what we’re capable of doing last season, and I’m looking forward to building on it with SAFC in the city I love.”

The Costa Rican international has also made 10 total appearances for his country’s national team, playing for the Ticos in Copa America matches, Copa Centroamericana matches and international friendlies. Elizondo also made four total appearances in CONCACAF Champions League play with Saprissa.
