OKLAHOMA CITY – OKC Energy FC announced on Tuesday seven players would return to the club for the 2018 USL season, with Miguel Gonzalez, Jose Barril, Juan Pablo Guzman, Coady Andrews, Kyle Hyland, Philip Rasmussen and Jonathan Brown all set to remain as part of the club next year. The signings are pending league and federation approval.

“We believe these players will provide a great foundation to build a team around for the 2018 season,” said Energy FC co-owner Bob Funk Jr.  “In addition to them providing different elements to our success last season, they are all integral parts of our community and are glad they choose call OKC home.”

Gonzalez returns for his second season with Energy FC after notching eight goals in the 2017 USL regular season, good for second on the team. Gonzalez scored arguably the most entertaining goal of the USL season with a bicycle kick finish in a 1-0 victory over Sacramento on April 11, which landed the 27-year-old the No. 1 position on ESPN’s SportsCenter Top 10 that night and worldwide acclaim for Energy FC and the USL.

Barril and Guzman were stalwarts in the center of midfield for Energy FC this past year, with Barril making 32 appearances for the club and finishing second on the team in passes attempted (1,238) and passing accuracy (84.5%) in addition to one goal, three assists and 51 key passes. Guzman posted 25 appearances, and recorded team-leading 87.1 percent pass completion percentage on 1,154 passes.

Both Andrews and Hyland will return for their third seasons with the club, with both key figures in Energy FC’s back line in the 2017 regular season. Andrews made 24 appearances this past season, and is closing in on 100 appearances in the USL for his career. Hyland appeared in 33 matches, was second on the club in minutes played (2,917) and also notched two goals this past season.
