OKC Energy FC news and notes

  • Current record: 13-11-7, 46pts

  • Energy FC clinched its third consecutive trip to the USL Cup Playoffs with an emphatic 4-1 win against the Swope Park Rangers last Sunday night.

  • Energy FC shot out to a 3-0 lead with goals from Miguel Gonzalez, Jose Angulo, and Juan Pablo Guzman before Angulo notched his second late in the contest to seal the victory.

  • Energy FC sits in seventh place going into the final weekend of the regular season, but could move up a place with a win should in-state rival Tulsa Roughnecks FC fail to take victory on Saturday night when it hosts Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC at ONEOK Field.

  • Energy FC has seen a league-high 17 shots come back off the woodwork this season, with Miguel Gonzalez having almost as many shots come off the frame this season (5) as goals (7).

  • Angulo's pair of goals and assist against Swope Park saw him named to the USL Team of the Week on Tuesday, and the 2013 USL Most Valuable Player is now one goal from equalling his single-season high for goals in a season with 14 tallies going into Sunday's contest.

Seattle Sounders FC 2 news and notes

  • Current record: 9-18-4, 31pts

  • Sounders FC 2 suffered a 2-1 loss to the Swope Park Rangers on Wednesday night to continue the side's disappointed conclusion to the regular season.

  • Seattle opened the scoring through a Zach Mathers free kick in the 28th minute but conceded twice early in the second half, the winner coming on a penalty kick as the Rangers rallied for victory.

  • Mathers' goal was his 11th of the regular season, marking a major step up in performance in his second season as a professional after recording three goals in the 2016 regular season.

  • That loss extended Seattle's losing streak to three games, and the side is now winless in its last seven matches.

Series Notes

  • Seattle leads the all-time series with a 2-1-2 record, and took a 3-2 victory at Starfire Stadium in the only other meeting between the two sides this season.
