Swope Park Rangers news and notes

  • Current record: 16-8-7, 55pts

  • The Rangers slumped to a 4-1 loss to OKC Energy FC on Sunday night at Taft Stadium to realistically end their chances of finishing in the top two of the Western Conference.

  • Energy FC scored twice before halftime an another midway through the second half to put the game out of reach before the Rangers pulled a goal back with two minutes to go on a long-range free kick by Liam Doyle. OKC tacked on another goal in stoppage time to complete the scoring, and end the Rangers' four-game undefeated streak.

  • The Rangers were without both Kharlton Belmar and Kevin Oliveira in Sunday's contest, with young standout Oliveira having made his international debut over the weekend for Cape Verde in World Cup Qualifying.

  • Wednesday night concludes the Rangers' regular season schedule, with the side sitting level on points with fifth-place Phoenix Rising FC. The teams hold identical records, but due to Swope Park's seven-goal lead in goal differential it's likely a win would secure the Rangers a home game when the USL Cup Playoffs kick off in just over a week.

Seattle Sounders FC 2 news and notes

  • Current record: 9-17-4, 31pts

  • S2's winless streak reached six games on Saturday night as the side fell 1-0 to a 10-man Tulsa Roughnecks FC on Saturday night at ONEOK Field.

  • Seattle fell behind early, but gained a man advantage following a second yellow card to Collin Fernandez in first half stoppage time. Despite the edge in numbers, S2 was unable to find an equalizer as Roughnecks goalkeeper Fabian Cerda notched a four-save shutout.

  • S2 is looking for its first win in almost two months when it takes on the Rangers, having last taken victory on Aug. 16 against the Portland Timbers 2.

  • Seattle concludes its regular season on Sunday evening when it visits OKC Energy FC at Taft Stadium.

Series Notes

  • The Rangers have won all three previous meetings between the sides, most recently taking a 2-0 win on July 20 at Starfire Stadium.
