Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC news and notes

  • Current record: 10-12-8, 38pts

  • The Switchbacks took a vital 2-1 win against Orange County SC last Saturday night at Weidner Field to keep the side's chances of a third successive trip to the USL Cup Playoffs alive.

  • Goals in the first half by Kim Tae-Seong and Kevaughn Frater were enough for the Switchbacks to hold on off an attempted comeback by Orange County in the second half and earn all three points.

  • Colorado Springs sits in 10th place in the Western Conference going into this weekend's action, five points back of eighth-place OKC Energy FC with two games to go. Anything other than a win on Saturday night will end Colorado Springs' playoff chances.

  • Frater's goal, which proved to be the game-winner against Orange County, was his ninth of the regular season, and moved him two ahead of Masta Kacher for the team high.

Sacramento Republic FC news and notes

  • Current record: 13-10-6, 45pts

  • Republic FC fell 3-1 to Orange County SC on Wednesday night at Champions Soccer Stadium in the first game of its week-long road trip.

  • Sacramento equalized late in the first half through Sammy Ochoa, but Orange County scored twice in the second half to pull away for a victory that kept OCSC's playoff hopes alive.

  • Republic FC still needs only a draw from its final two matches to advance to the USL Cup Playoffs for the fourth consecutive season, but it can no longer finish higher than sixth in the Western Conference standings.

  • Republic FC will be without defender Emrah Klimenta (Montenegro) and forward Trevin Caesar (Trinidad & Tobago) for Saturday's game after both were selected for World Cup Qualifying by their respective national teams.

Series Notes

  • The Switchbacks have never lost to Sacramento with a 2-0-2 all-time record. The teams played to a 2-2 draw at Papa Murphy’s Park on Sept. 2 in the only prior meeting this season.
