Orange County SC forward Wuilito Fernandes has been named in Cape Verde’s squad to face Senegal in World Cup Qualifying on Oct. 7 in Praia, Cape Verde, retaining his place in the squad as the country bids to earn a trip to the FIFA 2018 World Cup in Russia. Former Swope Park Ranger standout Kevin Oliveira was also named in the squad.

Fernandes has made 24 appearances for Orange County in his first season with the club, recording three goals and three assists, while also notching 17 key passes for the USL Western Conference playoff contender. The 27-year-old has made three prior appearances for Cape Verde.

He is joined by Oliveira, who has had another good season for the Swope Park Rangers with 18 appearances, three goals and five assists for the defending USL Western Conference champions. The No. 2 selection on the USL 20 Under 20 in 2016, the 21-year-old was signed to an MLS contract by Sporting Kansas City in September after helping the side record a five-game winning streak in the middle of this season.

Cape Verde enters Saturday’s game tied for the lead in Group D of CAF World Cup Qualifying with Burkina Faso with two games remaining in group play. A victory against Senegal, which sits one point back in third and has a game in hand, would keep the Blue Sharks in contention to finish top of the group, with their final game coming against Burkina Faso on Nov. 6.
