Louisville, Orlando midfielders part of team to face El Salvador in Houston

Louisville City FC’s Mark-Anthony Kaye and Orlando City B’s Jordan Schweitzer have been named in Canada’s squad for an international exhibition against El Salvador on Sunday, Oct. 8 in Houston at BBVA Compass Stadium.

The call-up marks an opportunity for Schweitzer to make his senior national team debut, with the midfielder having previously competed for his country at the U23 level.

“This is a timely match for Canada to face El Salvador [and] a perfect fit for our progress,” said Canadian National Team Head Coach Octavio Zambrano. “It is an important match as we continue to assess our program and players.”

Kaye has made four appearances for Canada this year, including in the team’s most recent outing in September, a 2-0 victory against Jamaica at Stade Saputo in Montreal. The 22-year-old midfielder has had a strong second season for USL Eastern Conference-leader Louisville, recording 17 appearances and notching three goals and one assist.

Schweitzer has helped OCB’s bid for a second consecutive trip to the USL Cup Playoffs since his arrival at the club this offseason, recording 22 appearances for the side while scoring one goal and one assist. The holding midfielder has made 44 appearances in the USL in his career to date, having competed in the 2016 season for Seattle Sounders FC 2.

Other players with USL experience named to the squad include the Montreal Impact’s Louis Beland-Goyette, who has been named in the senior national team squad for the first time. Alongside him are Toronto FC’s Raheem Edwards and the Impact’s Anthony Jackson-Hamel, both of whom starred in the USL a season ago before having breakout seasons in MLS this year.
