Phoenix looks to keep pressure on USL Western Conference top four

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Phoenix Rising FC will try to end a four-game road trip in perfect style as it looks to continue a five-game winning streak when it visits a Sacramento Republic FC side coming off back-to-back defeats on Saturday night. Kickoff at Papa Murphy's Park is set for 7:30 p.m PT kickoff.

Sacramento Republic FC news and notes

  • Current record: 12-10-6, 42pts

  • Republic FC remained in seventh place in the Western Conference after falling to a 2-0 loss against Real Monatchs SLC on Wednesday night at Papa Murphy's Park in the USL Game of the Week on ESPN3.

  • Sacramento conceded twice in the opening five minutes of the season half against the Monarchs, while Sammy Ochoa had a late penalty kick saved to end any hope of a late comeback as Republic FC fell for the second consecutive outing.

  • Sacramento is still comfortably set to reach the USL Cup Playoffs as it holds a five-point lead on ninth-place Orange County SC going into the weekend's action with four games left in the regular season.

  • Republic FC notched its 400th shot of the season against the Monarchs on Wednesday night, good for fifth in the USL, but is tied for 19th in the league with only a 13 percent chance conversion rate.

Phoenix Rising FC news and notes

  • Current record: 14-7-7, 49pts

  • Rising FC booked its first trip to the USL Cup Playoffs in club history on Wednesday night as it scored early and late in a 2-0 win against the Portland Timbers 2 at Providence Park.

  • Shaun Wright-Phillips managed a goal and an assist in the match, and notched what proved to be the game-winner in the eighth minute. Jason Johnson added a second in the 82nd minute to put the game away late.

  • Wednesday's victory extended the side's winning streak to five games, and its overall undefeated streak to 11 games, as Rising FC moved three points back of fourth-place San Antonio FC in the Western Conference standings. 

  • Phoenix has recorded shutouts in four consecutive contests, giving goalkeeper Josh Cohen seven clean sheets for the season overall.
