Rio Grande Valley FC news and notes

  • Rio Grande Valley enters on a high following a 1-0 win against Texas rivals San Antonio FC last Saturday night at Toyota Field, which handed SAFC its first home defeat of the season.

  • Toros midfielder Jose Escalante managed an impressive chip to score the only goal of the match in the 17th minute, earning himself a place on the USL Team of the Week.

  • That win was the second in a row for the Toros, and their fourth for the season on a road as the side kept its slim hopes of returning to the USL Cup Playoffs for a second consecutive season alive.

  • Escalante's goal was his fourth of the season, putting the Houston Dynamo loanee tied for second on the team behind Kyle Murphy with six.

Swope Park Rangers news and notes

  • Kharlton Belmar, Lebo Moloto, and Amer Didic scored the goals in a win which pushed the Rangers to third place in the Western Conference.

  • Belmar's goal was his 13th of the season, which was both an individual-season best for the 2015 USL Rookie of the Year, and also set a new single-season record for the Rangers, surpassing Mark Anthony Gonzalez combined total of 12 regular season and postseason goals in 2016.

  • The Rangers have scored 11 goals during their three-game winning streak, and have become the fifth team in the USL to reach 50 goals this season.
