VANCOUVER, B.C. – Two sides eliminated from USL Cup Playoffs contention still have plenty to play for, with local pride at stake as Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 welcomes Portland Timbers 2 to McLeod Athletic Park for a 3 p.m. PT kickoff on Saturday afternoon as T2 begins a four-game road trip to end the regular season.

Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 news and notes

  • Current record: 5-16-8, 23pts

  • WFC2 comes into this match following a heavy 4-0 defeat to Phoenix Rising FC last Sunday afternoon at Thunderbird Stadium.

  • Vancouver conceded twice in the first six minutes and from there it never got back into the match as Rising FC continued a strong defensive run on its road trip.

  • WFC2 recorded 14 shots against Rising FC, but saw its seven shots on target stymied by Phoenix goalkeeper Josh Cohen as he recorded his sixth shutouts of the season.

  • Vancouver has been held winless in its last four matches, scoring just once in that span while conceding nine goals.

Portland Timbers 2 news and notes

  • Current record: 2-20-6, 12pts

  • Portland enters Saturday's match following a 2-0 loss to Phoenix Rising this past Wednesday night at Providence Park.

  • T2 conceded in the eighth minute, and another strong Phoenix defensive performance was vital as Rising FC controlled the match well for a win that clinched a place in the USL Cup Playoffs.

  • After a three-match unbeaten run, T2 has suffered back-to-back defeats as it begins a four-game road trip to wrap up the regular season.

  • Portland will have young defender Harold Hanson available for selection again after he served a one-game suspension for caution accumulation on Wednesday night.

Series Notes

  • WFC2 has extended its lead in the all-time series between the teams with a pair of 1-0 victories previously this season, which has given it a 7-3-0 record against its Cascadia rival.
