Roughnecks keeper takes home award for August

TAMPA, Fla. – Tulsa Roughnecks FC goalkeeper Fabian Cerda has been voted the USL Fans’ Choice Save of the Month for August of the 2017 season, making the 28-year-old the fifth different individual to earn the honor in as many months.

The Chilean keeper has been at the center of the Roughnecks' bounce-back campaign in 2017, ranking among the top five league-wide with seven clean sheets, while standing fourth in the USL Western Conference with 69 stops in 18 appearances. The award-winning stop came in the 30th minute of a Week 21 Black Gold Derby clash with rival OKC Energy FC as Cerda dove to parry away a well-placed header from Sam Fink at the left post – one of his six saves in a contest that saw Tulsa bring home the derby's Championship Wrench with a 2-1 home victory at ONEOK Field.

Cerda’s save finished with 61 percent of the poll conducted online at that concluded on Monday morning. Callum Irving of Ottawa Fury FC took second as his double denial of Florian Valot and Andrew Tinari of NYRBII earned 16 percent of the vote while a sprawling, one-handed effort from Switchbacks FC keeper Moise Pouaty that turned away a Villyan Bijev penalty kick placed third with 15 percent.
