Portland Timbers 2 news and notes
Current record: 2-18-5, 11pts
Portland played to a second consecutive draw in its last outing as they were held 1-1 by Tulsa Roughnecks FC last Sunday afternoon at Providence Park.
Jack Barmby put T2 ahead with an excellent free kick in the first half, but the Roughnecks earned a draw as Juan Pablo Caffa converted a penalty kick just before the halftime break.
T2 was without playmaker Villyan Bijev for the first time this season against Tulsa, with the 2016 USL All-League selection having been sent on loan to Sacramento Republic FC for the remainder of the year.
Portland goalkeeper Kendall McIntosh is fifth in the USL with 74 saves this season, seven behind league-leader Mitch Hildebrandt of FC Cincinnati.
Real Monarchs SLC news and notes
Current record: 17-4-4, 55pts
The Monarchs fell for the first time in 13 outings at Rio Tinto Stadium in their last outing last Saturday night as San Antonio FC rallied to take a 2-1 victory.
Real had taken the lead through a sterling finish by Sebastian Saucedo, but two goals in the final five minutes lifted SAFC to its first comeback victory of the season.
Despite the defeat, the Monarchs became the first side to clinch a place in the 2017 USL Cup Playoffs last Saturday, and the club remains seven points clear at the top of the Western Conference standings.
Real Salt Lake announced this week that goalkeeper Lalo Fernandez, who made 50 appearances for the Monarchs over the past three seasons, had been transferred to Tigres UANL in Liga MX.
