Five candidates selected for standout performances over the past month

TAMPA, Fla. – The USL announced on Friday the five nominees for the USL Player of the Month award for August, with top performers from the past month of the season selected for the ballot.

Voting in the USL Player of the Month Award will be conducted by the following three voting bodies:

  • The USL Technical Committee’s ballots comprise 34 percent of the poll.
  • The USL National Media Panel’s ballots comprise 33 percent of the poll.
  • A fan vote on USLSoccer.com will comprise the remaining 33 percent of the poll. The fan vote will run through Monday, September 4 at 9 a.m. ET.

The award winner and complete voting results will be announced on Thursday, September 7.

Please note: The USL Player of the Month selections process in no way is tied directly to the voting and selection process of End of the Year awards such as USL MVP or position players of the year.

2017 USL Player of the Month Nominees – August

  • Enzo Martinez, M, Charlotte Independence – Martinez recorded five goals and one assist to move into contention for the USL Golden Boot as he earned nomination for the USL Player of the Month award on a second consecutive occasion.
     
  • Luke Spencer, F, Louisville City FC – Spencer recorded four goals and three assists as Louisville moved to the top of the Eastern Conference standings behind the powerful forward’s all-around play.
     
  • Cody Laurendi, GK, OKC Energy FC – Laurendi recorded three shutouts in five appearances, and posted a 0.60 goals-against average and 81.3 save percentage to lead Energy FC back into the playoff positions in the Western Conference.
     
  • Earl Edwards Jr., GK, Orlando City B – Edwards had a spectacular July, posting an 88.5 save percentage as he saved 23 of 26 shots in five appearances, while also recording a 0.60 goals-against average and three shutouts.
     
  • Cory Burke, F, Bethlehem Steel FC – Burke scored three goals and added two assists to lead Steel FC into the playoff positions in the Eastern Conference as the Jamaican international continued to build a solid overall campaign.
