PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers 2 announced on Tuesday the club had signed Renzo Zambrano. A midfielder, Zambrano will be added to the T2 roster pending the receipt of his P-1 visa. Per league and club policy, terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Zambrano, 22, joins Portland after making more than 140 professional appearances since his debut in Venezuela’s Primera División Venezolana with Monagas SC in 2011. Zambrano spent two seasons with Monagas (2011-13), before joining A.C. Deportivo Lara for the 2014 Primera División Venezolana campaign, making 26 appearances (14 starts) and recording one goal.

“We are pleased to welcome Renzo Zambrano into T2 and the Portland Timbers organization,” said T2 Head Coach Andrew Gregor. “Renzo is a player that has experience playing professionally in Venezuela and Spain, while also representing his country at multiple levels. We look forward to him bringing that experience and skill set into T2 while he still continues to develop as a player.”

A native of Aragua de Maturin, Venezuela, Zambrano most recently played for Real Valladolid during the 2016-17 Spanish Segunda División campaign, while also appearing for the club’s second team, Real Valladolid B, which plays in Segunda División B. Zambrano made 54 appearances (47 starts) for Valladolid B, recording two goals and an assist after joining the club in 2015. Zambrano also appeared in three matches for Real Valladolid, including starting in a 2-1 victory over Real Zaragoza in the second round of the Copa Del Rey on Sept. 7, 2016.

At the international level, Zambrano has made three appearances (3 starts) for the Venezuelan National Team since making his debut and recording an assist in a 5-0 win over Bolivia in a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying match on Nov. 11, 2016.
