1868 FC loanee Colvey also named for World Cup Qualifying in September

Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 defender Deklan Wynne and forward Myer Bevan, and Reno 1868 FC defender Kip Colvey have been named in New Zealand’s squad for a pair of World Cup Qualifying contests in September that was announced on Thursday night.

New Zealand will face the Solomon Islands in a two-legged final playoff in the Oceania Football Conference. The winner of the playoff will advance to face the fifth-place team in South American (CONMEBOL) qualifying in November.

Wynne was part of the All Whites squad that competed in June at the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia. The 21-year-old made two starts at the tournament against hosts Russia and Mexico, and has made 11 appearances all-time for his country. Wynne has made 28 appearances all-time for WFC2 since joining the club in 2015, and has recorded one goal and one assist for the side in the 2017 USL regular season.

Bevan earns his first selection to the full New Zealand national team after starring for the country at the 2017 FIFA U20 World Cup. The 20-year-old scored one of the goals of the tournament in Korea Republic in May after signing with WFC2 prior to the tournament. Since his arrival in Vancouver, Bevan has recorded two goals in six appearances for the club, including a tally in Wednesday’s 3-3 draw with Rio Grande Valley FC at Thunderbird Stadium.

Colvey was also a member of New Zealand’s squad at the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia, where he made one start for the team. Colvey has also made 11 appearances for the Whitecaps in his career. The 23-year-old San Jose Earthquakes defender has spent time on loan this season with Reno 1868 FC, making seven appearances in the USL, and previously competed on loan in the league with Sacramento Republic FC in 2016, when he made six appearances for the club.
