Precise first-time finish for Toros against Monarchs nabs weekly award

TAMPA, Fla. – Rio Grande Valley FC midfielder Jose Escalante has won the USL Fans’ Choice Goal of the Week for Week 19 of the 2017 season, as his beautiful first-time finish for the Toros in the USL Game of the Week on ESPN3 last Wednesday night against Real Monarchs SLC took top spot in the weekly online poll.

Escalante’s second goal of the season on loan from the Houston Dynamo came just before the hour-mark at H-E-B Park, as Kyle Murphy cut in from the left side toward the edge of the penalty area. His pass across the top of the box found Escalante in stride, and the Honduran standout put home a precise left-footed shot into the right corner of the net to level the score against the Western Conference leader.

Escalante’s goal earned 36 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Thursday morning. Ottawa Fury FC forward Sito Seoane finished second with 23 percent for his instinctive looping shot from 40 yards out against Toronto FC II last Saturday, while Reno 1868 FC’s Seth Casiple’s lobbed finish from a tremendous long pass by Junior Burgos against the Swope Park Rangers took third with 17 percent.
