NEW YORK – Thirteen players with USL experience were named on Wednesday to the 18-player squad for the 2017 MLS Homegrown Game presented by Energizer, as 2016 USL Cup-winners Tyler Adams and Derrick Etienne Jr. of the New York Red Bulls lead the group that will face Chivas de Guadalajara U20s at Toyota Park on Tuesday, August 1 as part of the 2017 MLS All-Star Game.

Also named in the group are fellow 2016 USL 20 Under 20 selections Alphonso Davies of Vancouver Whiecaps FC, Marco Farfan of the Portland Timbers, Derrick Jones of the Philadelphia Union and Bradford Jamieson IV of the LA Galaxy.

The squad will be led by Head Coach Brian McBride and assistant Mike Magee, who also brings a connection to the USL having played with Saint Louis FC on loan two seasons ago from the Chicago Fire.

The first signing in New York Red Bulls II history in 2015, Adams made 22 appearances for the club last season as he helped it claim both the USL Regular Season Championship and the 2016 USL Cup. Since then the 18-year-old standout has become a mainstay in the Red Bulls’ lineup this season, and featured prominently for the United States at the FIFA U20 World Cup in the Korean Republic, where he competed alongside Jones and fellow Homegrown Game selections Auston Trusty, Justen Glad – both of whom have competed in the USL – and Brooks Lennon.

Etienne had made 48 appearances in his career for the Red Bulls II, and has recorded nine goals and nine assists for the club. He was one of the goal-scorers when the Red Bulls II claimed victory in the the 2016 USL Cup Final. A member of the Haiti international team, Etienne and Davies bring top-level international experience to the squad, with Davies – who was the youngest goal-scorer in USL history at the age of 15 in 2016 – currently featuring for Canada at the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup, where he has scored three goals in the team’s opening two games.

Others with USL experience in the squad include goalkeepers Jesse Gonzalez and Evan Louro, who has recorded 38 saves for the New York Red Bulls II this season, midfielder Ballou Jean-Yves Tabla and forwards Andrew Carleton, who made his professional debut at the age of 16 last season for the Charleston Battery, and Canadian international Jordan Hamilton.
