OKLAHOMA CITY – OKC Energy FC goalkeeper C.J. Cochran made a club record 13 saves, but 2016-17 CONCACAF Champions League winners C.F. Pachuca ultimately sneaked past Energy FC on penalty kicks, 3-1, in an international exhibition on Tuesday night at Taft Stadium.

Though Pachuca outshot OKC 20-5, the Liga MX club was unable to put a shot past Cochran, who tallied seven saves in the first half and six in the second. Cochran’s 13 saves set an Energy FC record, previously held by current OKC keeper Cody Laurendi with eight saves on Aug. 24, 2016 against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC.

Brothers Miguel and Daniel Gonzalez, each tallied one of OKC’s two shots on goal for the match. In the 38th minute, OKC’s Alex Dixon sent a through-ball that split the Pachuca defense upfield to a streaking Miguel Gonzalez, who corralled the pass and rolled a shot that missed the Pachuca net by inches.

In the 78th minute, Daniel Gonzalez took a pass from Chad Bond near the upper-right edge of the Pachuca penalty area and fired a shot that glanced off the right post.

Angelo Sagal led Pachuca with three shots on goal, with four others registering two shots apiece.

The second half saw a number of changes for OKC as Energy U23 players Jordan Haynes, Fernando Machado, Jacob VanCompernolle and Caio Ruiz entered the match. Later in the second half, U23’s Christian Okeke was subbed in.

At the end of regulation, the match went to penalty kicks, where Pachuca goalkeeper Alfonso Romero made three saves on four shots, giving the visitors a 3-1 win.

Energy FC next travels to San Antonio, where it resumes its 2017 USL regular season schedule against San Antonio FC in an 8 p.m. CT kickoff at Toyota Field in the USL Game of the Week. The match will be broadcast exclusively on ESPNU.
