TAMPA, Fla. – The following is the USL’s discipline report for Week 15 of the 2017 United Soccer League season:
The league has issued multi-game game suspensions and undisclosed fines to three players involved in a scuffle during last Saturday’s match between Orange County SC and the Portland Timbers 2. For their violent conduct infractions, OCSC midfielder Amirgy Pineda has been suspended for six games, Orange County midfielder Jerry van Ewijk for five games and Timbers 2 defender Lamar Batista for three matches. All involved players were sent off during the second-half incident. Pineda’s and Ewijk’s suspension starts this Saturday when OCSC hosts Phoenix Rising FC. Batista’s suspension begins this Sunday when Portland hosts the LA Galaxy II.
Orlando City B midfielder Pierre Da Silva is suspended for three matches for violent conduct during the closing minutes of OCB’s home match against FC Cincinnati on Saturday. Da Silva will miss games this Saturday against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, July 13 against the Tampa Bay Rowdies and July 29 against the Charleston Battery.
Elsewhere, several players picked up their fifth caution of the season, resulting in a one-game suspension and undisclosed fine. The Harrisburg City Islanders defender James Thomas will serve his one-game suspension this Saturday against the Rochester Rhinos and Tampa Bay Rowdies defender Luke Boden will be unavailable when the Rowdies host FC Cincinnati on Thursday.
The LA Galaxy II’s Ryo Fujii picked up his fifth caution of the season and served his one-game suspension on Monday during his team’s road loss to Reno 1868 FC. The Charlotte Independence’s Callum Ross served a yellow card accumulation suspension during Tuesday night’s road win against Pittsburgh. Tulsa Roughnecks FC’s Francisco Ugarte picked up his eighth caution of the season in Week 15, resulting in a one-game suspension for accumulation. Ugarte served his suspension during this past Saturday’s home match against Real Monarchs SLC.
Bethlehem Steel FC’s Hugh Roberts and Cory Burke were both sent off during Saturday’s match against the Richmond Kickers – Burke picking up two cautions in the match – and will serve their respective one-game suspensions on Sunday against the New York Red Bulls II.
Phoenix Rising FC Head Coach Patrice Carteron was dismissed and fined an undisclosed amount stemmed from an aggregation of dissent, capped off by his involvement in stalling a Reno restart. Carteron will not be on the sidelines when Phoenix travels to face Orange County SC on Saturday. Saint Louis FC assistant coach Matt Caution was also dismissed from last Saturday’s match against the Red Bulls II for his verbal behavior toward the officiating crew, and he will not be on the bench for STLFC’s game against OKC Energy FC on Wednesday.
