VAUGHAN, ON – No team in the USL has been in need of a victory longer than Toronto FC II. The club had a late lead, but had to settle for a 1-1 draw against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds on Saturday at the Ontario Soccer Centre. Tsubasa Endoh gave Toronto a 1-0 advantage in the 59th minute and it stayed that way until Romeo Parkes’ free-kick equalizer helped Pittsburgh tie things up at 1-1 in the 87th minute. In the fourth minute of second-half stoppage time, TFC II had simultaneous headers – including one off the crossbar – but wound up with the draw and one point. Toronto is now 1-7-5 (8 points) overall and 0-2-3 at home. Pittsburgh moves to 4-5-4 (16 points) overall and 2-1-3 on the road. TFC II’s winless streak is now at 12 games (0-7-5).

Three Things That Mattered:

• 1. The Riverhounds had their share of scoring chances Saturday, and it took a 23-yard free kick strike from Romeo Parkes in the 87th minute to finally find a way to get past TFC II goalkeeper Angelo Cavalluzzo. A couple Riverhounds players ran over the ball before Parkes’ shot to keep Cavalluzzo off balance. Parkes snuck his shot inside the left post and Cavalluzzo was a little late to make a diving attempt. While Pittsburgh found the equalizer, the club missed some chances to get in the driver’s seat earlier. One of the biggest opportunities came in the 27rth minute when Corey Hertzog was one-on-one with Cavalluzzo, but instead of a low shot to either corner, he tried to loft it and put the attempt over the crossbar.

• 2. Toronto put itself in a spot to earn its first victory since late March. TFC II had a clinical buildup in the 59th minute to generate the game’s opening goal. Mitch Taintor provided the lead pass to Oyvind Alseth who crossed in from the right. Alseth then spotted Tsubasa Endoh who made a nice near-right-post run toward the edge of the six-yard area. Endoh turned and fired his shot past Pittsburgh goalkeeper Trey Mitchell for the 1-0 advantage.

• 3. Cavalluzzo has had his share of stellar spells this season, and he came up big for TFC II on a number of occasions. In the 69th minute, the Riverhounds’ Romeo Parkes was one-on-one and Cavalluzzo left his line to stuff Parkes’ attempt. In the 78th minute, Cavalluzzo made a diving save to his right on Kenroy Howell’s strike.
