Toros look to bounce back in clash of playoff contenders

EDINBURG, Texas – USL Western Conference playoff contenders Rio Grande Valley FC and Seattle Sounders FC 2 meet for the first time this season on Saturday night at H-E-B Park with the Toros looking to bounce back from a tough midweek defeat. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. CT.

Rio Grande Valley FC news and notes

  • Current record: 4-4-2, 14pts

  • Rio Grande Valley suffered a 3-2 defeat on Wednesday night against Reno 1868 FC, as an early lead quickly evaporated in the club’s first visit to Greater Nevada Field.

  • Memo Rodriguez opened the scoring, and Eric Bird equalized from the penalty spot with 16 minutes to go, but each time 1868 FC responded quickly with goals of its own to earn victory.

  • The Toros currently sit in eighth place in the Western Conference ahead of Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 on goal differential.

  • Rio Grande Valley FC is undefeated in its last three outings at H-E-B Park, taking seven points from the contests.

Seattle Sounders FC 2 news and notes

  • Current record: 5-5-2, 17pts

  • Seattle Sounders FC 2 took a 3-0 victory against the LA Galaxy II last Saturday night to move back up to third in the Western Conference.

  • Forward Irvin Parra had two goals and an assist in the victory, and was named the USL Player of the Week on Tuesday for his performance.

  • Parra also received his fifth yellow card of the season against Los Dos, and will be unavailable for Saturday’s game as he serves a one-game suspension for caution accumulation.

  • S2 has gone 2-2-1 on the road this season, but is winless in each of its past two road outings.
