Louisville, Charlotte look to build on draws after short turnaround

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Louisville City FC returns home to host the Charlotte Independence on Wednesday night at Slugger Field, with both teams looking to build off draws in their last outings this past weekend. The Video Assistant Referee system will be in use during the game, and kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.

Louisville City FC news and notes

  • Current record: 4-1-4, 16pts

  • Louisville rallied to earn a 4-4 draw against the Charleston Battery on Saturday night in one of the best games of the 2017 USL regular season so far.

  • City trailed by two goals with less than 15 minutes to go, but a standout strike by Brian Ownby and an own goal by Charleston’s Forrest Lasso allowed Louisville to emerge with a point.

  • Louisville is undefeated so far at Slugger Field this season, and has a current 10-game undefeated streak that dates to the 2016 season on home turf.

  • Defender Oscar Jimenez, who scored his first goal of the season against Charleston, sits sixth in the USL this season with 67 attempted crosses.

Charlotte Independence news and notes

  • The Independence let a second-half lead slip on Sunday night as it played to a 2-2 draw with the Tampa Bay Rowdies at Eagle Field.

  • Defender Dennis Castillo scored twice for the Independence early in the second half to overturn a halftime deficit, but the Rowdies scored late to level the score through Keith Savage.

  • Charlotte opens a big week of action against Louisville, with the side also set to visit to FC Cincinnati at Nippert Stadium on Saturday night.

  • Goalkeeper Cody Mizell earned the USL Fans Choice Save of the Month competition on Monday for his standout stop to deny Orlando City B’s Danny Deakin on May 27.
