Face Venezuela in quarterfinals on Sunday after biggest win of tournament

JEONJU, Korea Republic – The United States U20 National Team has the chance to advance to the Semifinals of the FIFA U20 World Cup for the second time in its history on Sunday when it faces Venezuela in the Quarterfinals at Jeonju Stadium. Kickoff is set for 2 a.m. ET.

United States news and notes

  • Current record: 1-0-2, 5pts, 1st Group F
  • Quarterfinals: W 6-0 vs. New Zealand
  • The United States advanced to the Quarterfinals for a second consecutive tournament with an emphatic 6-0 victory against New Zealand on Thursday as six different players found the net.

  • The victory matched the largest margin of victory by a U.S. side at the U20 World Cup, as former Real Monarchs SLC loanee Justen Glad, Josh Sargent and Brooks Lennon all notched a goal and assist.

  • Bethlehem Steel FC’s Auston Trusty made his first appearance of the tournament and found the back of the net, scoring the fifth goal in the rout. All nine players with USL experience have now seen action at the World Cup.

  • Sargent, who competed last year for Saint Louis FC U23 in the Premier Development League, has tied Taylor Twellman, Eddie Johnson and Jozy Altidore for the U.S. U20s record with four goals in a single FIFA U20 World Cup.

  • Quarterfinals: W 1-0 AET vs. Japan
  • Venezuela advanced to the knockout stage for the first time at the FIFA U20 World Cup this year, and edged out Japan in extra time in the Round of 16 on Tuesday.

  • Yangel Herrera, who competes for New York City FC in Major League Soccer, scored the game-winning goal against Japan.

  • The Vinotinto have yet to concede a goal in the tournament, having earned a 2-0 win against Germany and a 1-0 win against Mexico in the group stage.

  • Sergio Cordova leads Venezuela with four goals in the tournament, sitting alongside the United States’ Josh Sargent for the tournament lead with France’s Jean-Kevin Augustin
