Red Bulls II standout’s free kick strike voted best of Week 10

AMPA, Fla. – For the second time in three weeks, the USL Fans’ Choice Goal of the Week was settled by less than a percentage point as the New York Red Bulls II’s Derrick Etienne Jr. claimed the honor for Week 10, edging out Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC’s Jordan Burt by 0.2 percentage points in the online poll that concluded on Thursday morning.

Etienne’s outstanding finish gave the Red Bulls II a 2-1 victory against Eastern Conference leader the Charleston Battery last Sunday afternoon, with his whipped free kick finding the top-left corner of the net with 15 minutes to go at MSU Soccer Park. The Haitian international won by the same margin as Rio Grande Valley FC’s Todd Wharton did in Week 8, when Wharton’s game-winning goal against the Swope Park Rangers edged out Phoenix Rising FC’s Bradley Wright-Phillips.

Etienne earned 30.9 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Thursday morning. Burt’s dramatic late equalizer for the Switchbacks on Saturday night against Reno 1868 FC took 30.7 percent of the poll. San Antonio FC’s Mark O’Ojong’s goal on the counter-attack that gave San Antonio FC a 1-0 victory against the Swope Park Rangers finished third with 22 percent.
