Six players with USL experience featured in opening draw against Ecuador

INCHEON, Korea Republic – Coming off a thrilling draw to open the FIFA U20 World Cup on Monday, the United States U20 National Team faces a key contest against a Senegal side that opened the tournament with a win when the teams meet on Thursday night at Incheon Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 a.m. ET.

United States news and notes

  • Current record: 0-0-1, 1pt

  • The United States rallied twice to earn a 3-3 draw with Ecuador on Monday afternoon at Incheon Stadium as Luca de la Torre’s stoppage-time goal earned the side a point to open the tournament.

  • Former Bethlehem Steel FC midfielder Derrick Jones played a key role in the turnaround from an early two-goal deficit for the U.S., as his physicality in the center of the field helped turn things around.

  • Josh Sargent scored the opening two goals for the U.S. in the contest, with the 17-year-old becoming the youngest player to find the net for the country at the FIFA U20 World Cup in U.S. history.

  • Jones was one of six players with USL experience to feature in the game for the U.S., with Tyler Adams (New York Red Bulls II), Erik Palmer-Brown (Swope Park Rangers), Danny Acosta (Real Monarchs SLC) and Tommy Redding (Orlando City B) all in the starting lineup.

  • Senegal made a massive run at the last edition of the FIFA U20 World Cup in its first appearance at the tournament, reaching the semifinals before falling to Brazil.
