Nine players with USL experience included in squad for United States

INCHEON, Korea Republic – The United States U20 National Team will open its campaign in the 2017 FIFA U20 World Cup in South Korea when it takes on Ecuador at Incheon Stadium on Monday afternoon. Kickoff is set for 4 a.m. ET.

United States news and notes

  • Current record: 0-0-0, 0pts

  • The United States qualified for the FIFA U20 World Cup by winning the 2017 CONCACAF U20 Championship in Costa Rica in March. It marked the first time the U.S. had won the tournament.

  • Nine players included in Head Coach Tab Ramos’ squad for the World Cup have USL experience, including captain Erik Palmer-Brown (Swope Park Rangers) and 2016 USL Cup champion Tyler Adams (New York Red Bulls II).

  • Parker-Brown is one of three players to return to the U20 World Cup from the side that reached the quarterfinals in 2015, with Cameron Carter-Vickers and Gideon Zelalem also back with the squad.

  • Five player in the squad came through the Real Salt Lake Academy, including three (Justen Glad, Sebastian Saucedo, Danilo Acosta) who have played previously for Real Monarchs SLC.

Ecuador news and notes

  • Current record: 0-0-0, 0pts

  • Ecuador reached the World Cup after finishing as runner-up in the Campeonato Sudamericano Sub-20, which the country hosted.

  • Bryan Cabezas led the team with five goals, finishing tied for the tournament’s Golden Boot, and is one of three players to compete outside Ecuador for Italian Serie A club Atalanta.

  • The other two players to compete outside Ecuador are goalkeeper Omar Caraballi, who is signed to Colo Colo in Chile, and defender Pervis Estupinan, who competes for Granada B in Spain.

  • This is the third time Ecuador has qualified for the FIFA U20 World Cup, with the country having reached the Round of 16 in both 2011 and 2001 in its prior to visits to the tournament.

  • Saudi Arabia and Senegal will square off in the second game of the day at Incheon Stadium, with kickoff set for 7 a.m. ET. The game will also be aired on Fox Sports 1.
