CINCINNATI – Orlando City B scored twice in the final 15 minutes to defeat FC Cincinnati 2-0 in front of 19,310 fans at Nippert Stadium on Saturday night, extending OCB’s undefeated streak to four games. The first half saw few clear chances. Orlando’s Pierre da Silva’s had a free kick fly over from 30 yards, while Cincinnati’s Kadeem Dacres fired a low shot from the right side of the penalty area that was saved, which represented the best chances for each as the game remained scoreless at the break. Cincinnati (2-4-3, 9pts) almost got an immediate contribution from new addition Danni König 12 minutes into the second half, but his knockdown header to the top of the penalty area was fired wide of the left post by Aodhan Quinn. Orlando (3-3-3, 12pts) almost found an opening with 20 minutes to go as a back-post cross toward Austin Martz was flicked away by FCC defender Tyler Polak, but five minutes later Da Silva was brought down in the area to earn OCB a penalty kick and converted himself from the spot for his first goal this season. OCB almost added to its lead with six minutes to go, only for FCC goalkeeper Mitch Hildebrandt to make back-to-back big saves, but Richie Laryea’s third goal of the season in stoppage time sealed all three points for the visitors.

Scoring:
75’ – ORL – Pierre Da Silva (penalty)
90+ – ORL – Richie Laryea (Michael Cox)

Three Things That Matter:

  • 1. Orlando City B pulled off its biggest win of the season so far in a major part thanks to a defense that bent but didn’t break, and through a midfielder performance by the duo of Richie Laryea and Tony Rocha that helped limit the danger players like FCC counterparts Aodhan Quinn and Corben Bone could provide from central areas. Rocha in particular made seven tackles, and added four interceptions, in addition to completing 79 percent of more than 50 passes in the contest, allowing Pierre Da Silva’s penalty kick to hold up as the winner.

  • 2. The frustration that might have been bubbling under the surface in FC Cincinnati’s start to the new season came to the fore visibly in Saturday’s contest, with the side being issued six yellow cards, at least two of which were for dissent. FCC conceded 21 fouls over the game, and was left chasing the game regularly as Orlando held more possession and completed more passes in the game. Even the side’s normal danger from set pieces was relatively mute as the side finished with only five shots total for the contest.

  • 3. Given the nature of their schedule, Orlando’s last outing was a 0-0 draw with Saint Louis on April 27, OCB has very quietly now picked up eight points over a four-game undefeated streak since the middle of last month. Head Coach Anthony Pulis’ side has also now recorded three consecutive shutouts, and are looking a very solid opponent for whoever may face them over the second quarter of the season.
