BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Richie Laryea scored both goals as Orlando City B earned a 2-0 victory against Bethlehem Steel FC on Sunday evening at Goodman Stadium. The game opened evenly, but Steel FC came close to taking the lead in the 20th minute when Cory Burke was denied by Orlando goalkeeper Earl Edwards. OCB’s Edwards made another big save to deny Seku Conneh three minutes later, and Burke had a good header off a corner kick by 12 minutes before the break that was comfortably saved by Edwards. Orlando took the lead four minutes into the second half, however, as a good move down the right released Austin Martz, who cut back a pass to Laryea for a finish to the left corner. Pierre da Silva almost added to OCB’s lead in the 63rd minute as his free kick was saved, but Lareyea added a second in the 71st minute as he rifled a shot into the left corner from the top-right of the penalty area. Bethlehem’s Conneh forced a good save from Edwards four minutes later, but OCB threatened to add to its lead late on as the visitors ended their three-game road trip to the Northeast with a victory.

Scoring:
49’ – ORL – Richie Laryea (Austin Martz)
71’ – ORL – Richie Laryea (Albert Dikwa)

Three Things That Matter:

  • 1. OCB’s Richie Laryea darted in and out of Sunday’s game, but his contribution proved decisive as Orlando ended its trek through the northeast ended with a big win. The Canadian attacking midfielder completed all 18 of his passes in the contest as OCB looked to break quickly throughout the game, and his two finishes were well placed to boost Orlando ahead of its return home against Saint Louis FC on Thursday night.

  • 2. Orlando hadn’t put too much together in the final third during the first half, but OCB’s first shot of the second half proved decisive as Laryea found the net after a great example of the passing and movement the team is capable of. Orlando picked through the right side of Bethlehem’s defense to open up space for Laryea’s late-arriving run, and a good pass by Austin Martz set up a finish into the left corner that gave the visitors the lead.

  • 3. Bethlehem had chances to take control of the game, but between a combination of a solid performance by Orlando goalkeeper Earl Edwards Jr. and some slack finishing, Steel FC suffered a tough home loss in a game it will probably feel it should have gotten more from. Steel FC had more possession and more shots, but allowed Orlando more clear looks on goal that saw the visitors outshoot the hosts 8-5 in shots on goal, and sent Bethlehem to its second consecutive loss ahead of FC Cincinnati’s visit next weekend.
