Pittsburgh, Saint Louis both look to build on comeback victories

PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Riverhounds and Saint Louis FC meet on Wednesday night at Highmark Stadium with both clubs looking to build off dramatic comeback victories over the weekend. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET.

Pittsburgh Riverhounds news and notes

  • Current record: 1-1-1, 4pts

  • The Riverhounds earned their first win of the season on Saturday night with a 2-1 comeback victory against the Charleston Battery at MUSC Health Stadium.

  • Marshall Hollingsworth and Corey Hertzog both found the net in the second half for the Riverhounds, who took their first win since 2011 against Charleston, breaking an 11-game winless streak.

  • Hertzog is one of five players tied for the league lead with three goals this season as Week 4 kicks off. An All-League selection last year, Hertzog has scored 16 goals since joining the Hounds prior to last season.

  • The Riverhounds will have Danny Earls available for the first time this season on Wednesday after the conclusion of his suspension from the end of the 2016 season.

Saint Louis FC news and notes

  • Current record: 2-0-1, 7pts

  • Saint Louis claimed a 3-2 victory for the second consecutive outing on Saturday night as it defeated the New York Red Bulls II at Toyota Stadium – Saint Louis.

  • Jose Angulo scored the game-tying goal from the penalty spot with 16 minutes to go, and then provided the assist on Seth Rudolph’s winner 10 minutes later.

  • Christian Volesky also scored his second goal in as many games, giving him 20 career goals in the USL early in his third season.

  • The contest will see Angulo return to Highmark Stadium, where he earned the 2013 USL Most Valuable Player award as a member of the Riverhounds after recording 15 goals in the regular season.

  • The two teams finished deadlocked in each of their prior two meetings in the 2015 USL regular season, with both contests ending in a 1-1 draw.
