San Antonio looks to remain perfect as Switchbacks visit

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio FC will try to maintain its perfect start to the season on Friday night when it plays host to Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC at Toyota Field. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. CT.

  • Current record: 2-0-0, 6pts

  • San Antonio FC recorded a second consecutive victory to start its second season with a 3-0 win against the LA Galaxy II on Saturday night at Toyota Field.

  • A sellout crowd of 8,081 fans saw goals by Rafael Castillo, Michael Reed and Billy Forbes lift SAFC to victory as Matt Cardone recorded the shutout.

  • San Antonio is one of two teams yet to concede a goal in the early going, alongside the Eastern Conference’s Tampa Bay Rowdies.

  • Forbes has recorded two goals and one assist in the opening two games of the season, and on Tuesday was named to the USL Team of the Week.

Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC news and notes

  • The Switchbacks earned a 1-1 draw in their home opener last Saturday evening against OKC Energy FC as Masta Kacher’s first goal for the club highlighted a snowy encounter at Weidner Field.

  • Midfielder Rony Argueta continued his stellar play in defensive midfield for the Switchbacks, winning 10 duels – including aerial duels – and losing none against Energy FC while completing 86 percent of his passes.

  • Defender Pascal Eboussi had a busy day as Energy FC outshot the Switchbacks 13-10, with the Switchbacks’ new center back recording four tackles, seven clearances and two interceptions.

  • Colorado Springs will continue its visit to Texas next Wednesday night when the Switchbacks visit Rio Grande Valley FC at H-E-B Park.
