UPPER MONTCLAIR, N.J. – Two members of the reigning USL Cup champion New York Red Bulls II will be invited to the club’s MLS training camp next month, with Florian Valot and Vincent Bezecourt to get an early start on preseason with the Red Bulls.
“Those guys are going to be in the first team camp in January,” said Red Bulls II Head Coach John Wolyniec to Metro New York’s Kristian Dyer. “A little bit yet to be determined with them on whether they make the first team roster or not. Probably an outside chance they’re both going to make it so at least one will be with us. Maybe a good chance that one of them moves on; doesn’t mean we’ll lose them because they’ll still play some games with us.”
Bezecourt had six goals and two assists in 18 appearances for the Red Bulls II in the 2016 USL regular season, finishing third on the team in goals. He then added two goals and three assists in the 2016 USL Cup Playoffs, including a tally in the Red Bulls II’s 5-1 victory against the Swope Park Rangers in the 2016 USL Cup Final.
Valot had two goals and six assists in 17 regular-season appearances for the side, which put him tied for the team-lead in assist with Derrick Etienne Jr. He also added a goal and assist in the 2016 USL Cup Playoffs, including the game-tying goal against Louisville in the Eastern Conference Final that New York went on to win in a penalty shootout.
The duo will be aiming to follow in the footsteps of fellow Red Bulls II standout Aaron Long, who was named USL Defender of the Year after a standout season for the club. Long was an invitee to the Red Bulls’ training camp a season ago, and used the opportunity to quickly integrate himself into the organization’s philosophy after arriving from Seattle.
