OKLAHOMA CITY – OKC Energy FC announced on Thursday it had signed forward Alex Dixon for the 2017 USL season. The signing is pending league and federation approval.

Dixon helped the Rochester Rhinos claim the 2015 USL Cup in his second season with the club, and now joins OKC after spending the past season with Jacksonville Armada FC, where he played 538 minutes in 15 games and recorded two goals and an assist.

“He gives us something different than what we already have. He’s extremely fast, but still fast with quality,” Energy FC Head Coach Jimmy Nielsen said. "We tried to get him before last season, so we’re very excited to bring him on board year."

The Bay City, Texas native grew up playing in the Houston Dynamo academy, and played the 2010 season with Reading United in the PDL. After three years of playing for the University of North Carolina, the midfielder signed a Homegrown Player contract with the Dynamo in 2011.  Dixon notched 10 goals during his MLS stint, including games in the MLS Reserve League.

“I decided to sign with the Energy after speaking with Jimmy,” said Dixon. “He described what kind of team he was trying to build and he has an attacking philosophy which is right up my alley. I'm looking forward to playing in front of the great fans that the club have and I think with the group the club is putting together we have a good chance of winning a championship which is the ultimate goal.”
