CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Charleston Battery got a late goal from Ataullah Guerra, but fell 2-1 to legendary Scottish club Rangers F.C. in an international exhibition at MUSC Health Stadium on Wednesday night as goals by Josh Windass and Harry Forrester gave the visitors victory.

A large thunderstorm pushed kickoff back by more than an hour in the Low Country, but once the game began the two teams exchanged chances early on. With former U.S. international Oguchi Onyewu in the starting lineup, Rangers almost took the lead in the 20th minute when Kenny Miller had his initial shot blocked by the Battery defense, as the deflection just eluded Martyn Waghorn.

Battery goalkeeper Odisnel Cooper saved from Andy Halliday four minutes later, and then from Miller’s strong header a minute on as the visitors started to gain the upper hand. Despite their chances, though the Battery were able to hold the game scoreless until the halftime break.

The Battery made numerous changes ahead of the second half, and one of those in Patrick Okonkwo hit a turning shot inside the opening minute of the half just over the crossbar. Rangers took the lead just before the hour-mark, however, as Windass turned home a cross from the right by Michael O’Halloran.

With 14 minutes to go Rangers made it two as Forrester collected a pass by Barrie McKay and broke in on net before shooting low past Battery goalkeeper Alex Tambakis.

Charleston pulled a goal back with nine minutes remaining as Guerra scored from a tight angle at the near post, but the Battery got no closer on another memorable night for the club.
