OKLAHOMA CITY – In front of a packed Taft Stadium, Liga MX’s Chivas de Guadalajara took a 1-0 victory against the USL’s OKC Energy FC in an international exhibition. On a historic night for Energy FC as it hosted its first overseas competition, Chivas captain Omar Bravo scored the only goal to give the visitors victory in front of 6,687 fans.

Chivas got onto the front foot quickly, and both Energy FC’s Kalen Ryden and Michael Harris had to make good defensive plays to keep the game scoreless early. OKC’s first real chance arrived in the 11th minute as a loose ball came to Jordan Rideout, but his shot was off target.

Ryden again had to make a decisive interception in the 18th minute, as his sliding stop broke up a Chivas attack, but 11 minutes later the visitors took the lead through Bravo from a corner kick by Carlos Cisneros as a good contingent of the packed stands broke into celebrations.

The score remained the same until the halftime break, which saw Energy FC make a number of changes, including the introduction of goalkeeper Jacob Lissek, who was called into action early in the second half as he first claimed a corner kick, and then swatted away a chance just before the hour mark.

Energy FC had a big chance to level the score as PDL standout Devante Dubose of the Energy FC U-23 sent a cross in for Sebastian Dalgaard, only for the midfielder to put his shot wide. Luis Martinez also came close to an equalizer for OKC, but pulled his shot off a cross just wide of the post.

Dalgaard went close again with 16 minutes to go as his shot went just over the left corner of the net, and Energy FC pushed strongly late on in the attacking third. Chivas would hold on late, however, as an entertaining contest saw the legendary club take victory.
