OKLAHOMA CITY – OKC Energy FC defeated Seattle Sounders FC 2, as Danni Konig provided the heroics with an 86th-minute goal to lift Energy to a 2-1 victory in its home opener on Saturday in front of 6,797 fans at Taft Stadium. Chuy Sanchez also provided a goal as Oklahoma City overcame a first-half deficit.

S2 (3-2-0, 9 points) lost their second game in a row while OKC Energy FC earned its second victory of the season to improve to 2-0-1 (7 points).

Darwin Jones scored the lone goal for S2 in the 33rd minute.

After a delayed kickoff due to lightning storms in the area, the teams finally got play started 45 minutes after the scheduled time. Jones started the scoring in the 33rd minute as an Andy Craven shot was deflected out by goalkeeper Evan Newton, falling to the feet of Jones who blasted it into the open net.

Oklahoma City’s Sanchez equalized five minutes later in the 38th minute finding the back of the net after receiving a well-threaded through ball from the center of the pitch from Konig.

Energy FC had a chance to go ahead right before half with a penalty chance after Amadou Sanyang held König in the box, but Michael Thomas’ shot bounced off the post and out of play.

Konig found the game-winner in the 86th minute after a low cross went uncontested into the middle of the area. Konig found himself with only S2 goalkeeper Charlie Lyon to beat, and he scored with his first touch.

It is the second loss in a row for the Rave Green, and only the first game the team has been held to one goal.
